Germany Condemns Israeli Strike on Gaza Media Team
(MENAFN) Germany expressed deep dismay on Monday following a fatal Israeli missile attack in Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of a young child and an employee of a media firm that collaborates with the ZDF, a German public television network.
During a press briefing in Berlin, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Kathrin Deschauer remarked, "The news of the shelling and the killing of two people, including an 8-year-old child, is deeply shocking.”
She emphasized the necessity of thoroughly examining the deadly assault.
Deschauer also stressed that individuals involved in humanitarian efforts, journalism, emergency response, and civilians "are naturally under special protection,” underscoring the principle that such groups must be safeguarded during armed conflicts.
The strike reportedly targeted the facilities of Palestine Media Production (PMP), a long-standing partner of ZDF’s Tel Aviv bureau, located in Deir el Balah in southern Gaza. The missile hit the site on Sunday afternoon.
The victims of the strike included a 37-year-old engineer employed by the company and the 8-year-old son of a different staff member.
Additionally, another team member from PMP, aged 31, sustained injuries.
Photographs from the aftermath reveal significant destruction, including the obliteration of the satellite news gathering (SNG) van and other operational vehicles used by the team.
Responding to the attack, ZDF Editor-in-Chief Bettina Schausten stated: "Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, to whom we express our deepest condolences. It is unacceptable that media professionals are attacked while carrying out their work."
