Hundreds of Protesters Rally in Paris Over US Maduro Arrest

(MENAFN) Hundreds rallied in Paris Sunday to condemn a US military operation that led to the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse Cilia Flores.

Demonstrators converged on Bastille Square after multiple political organizations issued mobilization calls, expressing fierce opposition to Washington's intervention.

Protesters brandished signs declaring "Stop imperialist aggression, yes to the sovereignty of peoples."

Additional banners demanded Maduro's immediate release, while crowds chanted "Trump out, Venezuela does not belong to you."

Rally participants urged US withdrawal from the Caribbean region and voiced solidarity with Venezuela's population.

They further insisted that Venezuelan citizens must control their nation's destiny without external interference and called for the elimination of economic sanctions imposed on the country.

Pro-Palestinian activists also joined the demonstration.

On Jan. 3, US special forces seized Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro during a nighttime raid in Caracas, transferring him to US custody while conducting airstrikes against military installations.

The operation, greenlit by President Donald Trump, followed longstanding federal indictments charging Maduro with narco-terrorism, drug trafficking and corruption.

On Jan. 5, Maduro was presented before a New York City federal court wearing handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit, entering a not guilty plea to all charges.
