Gaza infant dies amid harsh winter, child deaths from cold rise to nine

(MENAFN) A Palestinian baby dies from extreme cold in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, pushing the number of children who perish due to cold-related conditions this winter to nine, according to medical officials.

Reports say the child, seven-month-old Shatha Abu Jarad from the al-Daraj area of Gaza City, passes away after her heart stops because of exposure to severe low temperatures.

The death occurs as residents across Gaza continue to endure harsh humanitarian circumstances. Many families remain displaced, living in tents or densely packed shelters that lack essential supplies such as sufficient blankets, warm clothing, and heating, amid the ongoing two-year conflict in the enclave.
